Pre-Marital Counseling & Marriage Prep

Do you want to start your marriage off the right way?  Have you always wanted to know how to create the relationship that makes you the "go-to" couple in your friend-group?  Why not prepare for the most exciting adventure of your life and have fun doing it.  This process is not only meant to take your relationship to a whole new level, but it also empowers you as individuals and supports you in being your best self.

With all the things that life unexpectedly throws at us (and 2020 gets the award), it is essential for you to have a strong bond and a solid foundation for your relationship.  It is during these challenging times that your relationship is tested the most, and when many couples often give up because they don't have the tools to navigate the uncertainties in order to save their marriage. Pre-Marital counseling gives you the chance to build on your strengths, discover the areas that need attention, and create a blueprint that supports you through your successes and your challenges.  Many couples believe that marriage prep courses are only intended for religious couples or couples who haven't been together long.  The truth is, with the right methods and strategies, every couple benefits from these insights, and it will prove to be one of the smartest investments you can make.

So, what does Pre-Marital Counseling entail?

The first step is for you to take a simple, online relationship assessment (I use SYMBIS) to establish a baseline and look at the key areas of your life. The assessment takes around 30-40 minutes to complete and the results are sent to me confidentially. Once I receive your assessment results, I will make a recommendation for the number of sessions and frequency, and then I will contact you to book our first session.  The average number of sessions is between 6-10 sessions weekly or bi-weekly, based on your availability.  Each session lasts for an hour, and due to the pandemic, I am offering sessions online, where you can participate in the comfort of your own home.

In your Marriage Prep sessions, we will explore the key areas of your marriage such as Love Languages, Communication, Values, Expectations, Financial Health, Goal Setting, Family Planning, Spirituality, and any other area that may need attention.  Each session is customized to your needs and I will make recommendations based on your individual situations. If you are a religious or multi-faith couple, I offer counseling from a spiritual perspective.  I am an all-inclusive, non-denominational practitioner offering services to all couples, regardless of religious affiliation, sexual orientation, race, or cultural background.  If it turns out that we are not a good match (in some situations a specialized therapist is needed), we can explore other options for you to get the support that is most beneficial.

Where do the Pre-Marital Counseling Sessions take place?

At this time, I am offering Virtual counseling sessions that take place over Zoom (password protected) or Facetime.  If you are located in New York City and prefer to meet in person, I offer sessions in the Union Square area, and in some cases, I can travel to your home.

I am excited to announce that beginning in 2021, I am launching my online site called "The Lovesmith Academy". The academy is an online platform where singles, couples, & families learn powerful tools to enhance their relationships throughout the many transitions and lifecycles that relationships experience. Beginning with my "Marriage Success Blueprint", which is a self-paced course designed for conscientious couples who wish to learn the tools needed to build a strong foundation for their marriage. The course includes a private Facebook group for members and weekly live sessions with Rev. Dr. Samora. In addition to a variety of relationship courses, you can join my membership platform where you will receive ongoing support from a variety of experts and fellow couples.  Email me directly to learn more and become a founding member.

I proposed to my now wife on the last day of 12/31/2018. Like many others, we planned on having our wedding in the Summer of 2020. Unfortunately, the current pandemic had other plans. Our first meeting with Rev. Samora was one fall afternoon at a coffee shop in Brooklyn. After talking for only a few minutes, we knew we wanted her to be our officiant. She was kind, comforting, and funny. Those same characteristics would help strengthen our bond as we progressed through her premarital counseling sessions held virtually during quarantine. She offered useful strategies for my wife and me to become more communicative about uncomfortable topics, and help us become better life partners overall. Although we couldn’t celebrate our dream wedding with our loved ones as we originally intended, we didn’t want COVID to stop us from beginning our lives together as husband and wife. Aside from being easy to talk to and a comforting soul, Rev. Samora guided and supported us when we decided to participate in the City of New York’s “Project Cupid” program, which would allow us to get our marriage license and have a virtual ceremony in lieu of our original wedding plan. When we needed her most, Reverend Samora came through and married us through Zoom, and helped us complete the marriage certificate the following day. We’re eternally grateful we had Reverend Samora to help ease our anxieties throughout this rough year.
